The Boys’ Brigade is a uniformed Christian organization which uses a badge based structure to reward boys for their achievements. As a Christian organization, run by Christian leaders it is a wonderful opportunity to lead by example, showing the boys what it means to be Christian through YOUR example. As many of our boys are “unchurched” this opportunity for Christian witness should not be allowed to slip past for a lack of support from the established Christian sources.

Please think seriously whether this could be your place to contribute because the unique reward system that the BB uses allows us to utilize almost any talent. Rather than working for very specific pre determined badges (as other organizations do) we have the flexibility to deal with just about any subject and parcel it up within the reward structure.

The Company Section which has the oldest boys is the most structured with it’s badge work leading to high profile awards. The young men who attain these awards have to put something back in terms of community service as well as service within the company. To get to these badges the boys must achieve in the following categories:
Leadership (handled within the company, squad work , drill etc); Adventure ( map reading , star gazing , camping etc); Physical ( PE , games, box work etc); Interests ( this can and has been literally anything e.g. we have made targes and had a tour of the orchestra in the recent past); and finally Community ( we cover Christian ed , forms of government , my role in society , rights and responsibilities)

The Junior Section has tiered badges of different colours that lead to the Gold badge in the 3rd year. These badges are made up of individual tasks under the headings of interests, crafts, physical & spiritual; again the actual subject matter is up to the leaders.

The Anchor Section (the youngest boys) now has a 3 stage badge system of their own, which is very much play and craft oriented. This is designed to stimulate and encourage them.

With 3 distinct age groups and various attainment levels in each we will be able to encompass any and all who come to help us, rewarding the helper as he / she helps the children develop , and widen their appreciation of the world. It is easy to see that we can cover a vast amount of ground and still remain within the reward structure as it is set out.

The company meets on a MONDAY night and requires help in all 3 sections, on a regular or occasional basis.

Anchor Boys – Fetteresso 6.00-7.15pm, primaries 2 & 3 (age 5, 6 & 7)
Junior Section – South Church Hall, 7.00-8.30pm, primaries 4, 5 & 6 (age 7–10)
Company Section – Fetteresso 7.30-9.30pm, primary 7 to S6 (age 10/11–18)
