Men's Breakfast

We hold a monthly Men's Breakfast on a Saturday morning, excluding summer months and December. It is held in the Main Hall, and runs from 8am-9am. We typically enjoy a continental style breakfast with croissants, ham, cheese and fruit. For cholestorol junkies, we also have 'bacon butties'. The usual accompaniments are orange juice, cereal, toast, tea & coffee etc.

Men of all ages are welcome, and during the latter part of the breakfast we have a speaker, typically one of our own number, but occasionally we enjoy the company of a guest. The topics are wide ranging, but normally with a Christian element. The 2008 session began in February and this is the table of dates and speakers for the first half of the year.

The summary below gives you a feel for the sorts of topics and discussions we have:A luminous James shows the litter picker in action

November 2007; James Dickinson talked to us about another possible area for service to the community – “Adopt A Street”. This is a Stonehaven & District Community Council voluntary initiative to address litter problems in the town. Signing up gives you a free luminous jerkin, a picker and a pair of safety gloves - so get tidying! Further details can be found on the SDCC website and in this PDF file. This is James on the right ably demonstrating the equipment.

October 2007; Tim Southam was our speaker this month, and gave a talk on “The Human in the Workplace”, sharing how as people we communicate and interact, and giving background on why we behave the way we do in the workplace.  This was interjected with discussion about the Christian response in these situations.

September 2007; Alistair Maclean set a real challenge with a background history and a possible call to action with his pitch on - “Stonehaven Radio Station – Community Asset - Builders Wanted” and subtitled ‘A short talk about walking in faith when You reach the Red Sea.’ Alistair highlighted the range of possibilities for the site, and has since had front page coverage in the Mearns Leader.  Watch that space!

June 2007; Grant Affleck led the discussion on our last breakfast before he summer break with an informative and thought-provoking presentation to us on the topic “Youth and Evangelism - A role for the BB in the 21st Century ?”   A good insight into the tremendous work that goes on each week with the young lads in the area under the auspices of the Boys Brigade.

Attendance has typically been between 10 and 15, from a pool of around 30 men who have dined with us at some stage.  If you haven’t yet put this in your diary (or set your alarm clock) for a once a month Saturday start, then please consider it – we would love to start the weekend in fellowship with you.  Also, if you have a topic you would like to see discussed, or wish to lead us in, then contact breakfasts@fetteresso

So, to recap…

Purpose: Men of the church meet for food and fellowship, providing sustenance Physically, Socially and Spiritually.
Biblical Basis: Christ worked and witnessed often in the context of shared meals together.
