Welcome to the world of Far & Wide – cardboard boxes and black bags of discarded clothes, shoes, cups, saucers, glassware, pictures, books and countless other items.
We have a God who uses recycled goods to recycle lives and situations. From the donated items we receive at our Stonehaven shop we support and assist people in Aberdeenshire working in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council social work department, help local good causes and assist organisations working in many overseas areas of need.
From a council house in an Aberdeenshire village meeting a family break-up situation and looking at bare floor boards and a mother who cannot offer a cup of tea because she has no cooker, kettle or cups; to a SCIAF project in South America; an orphanage in Europe; a fish farm project in West Africa; the discarded goods from Stonehaven have brought comfort, dignity and a sense of belonging to many in need.
The Far & Wide Shop opened its doors on 13th November, 1993
at 47 Barclay Street, Stonehaven.
Brought from the Heart of God to the Stonehaven Community to establish an extension of God’s power. The initial Fetteresso Church committee running the charity shop was soon extended by incorporating volunteers from all the six local churches to reflect those working in the shop. It was teamwork and everyone did a shift or two on a regular basis.
The money raised would be channelled to missionaries and good causes.
Therefore this sense of achievement and doing God’s work to help, support and encourage spills over onto Stonehaven and surrounding area through :-
- Volunteers from six churches working together on a rota basis.
- The fellowship and friendships made and enriched by working together.
- The situations and organisations which have been helped.
- Working for Local Social Needs with our van delivering furniture and start–up packs
After five years in operation we felt we were restricted through lack of space, so we acquired larger premises which had become available. We moved to 26 Evan Street, increased our shop open hours and expanded our work in the community. One day a social worker asked if we could assist by providing something for a person in need. A new service was born that day and when asked we respond in a confidential way.
The shop is open -
