Dancing in the Aisles?! ...
... well, nearly. John Notman's final service before leaving for Bromsgrove ...
... and Mike Barfoot prays them on their way.
Every seat in the church was utilised this week as the members of Fetteresso met to say farewell to what has been a popular and progressive ministry. This was the last service conducted by John Notman as minister prior to his departure to a new challenge in Birmingham.
Members of the congregation were keen to say fond farewells to both John and his family. This was completed through a social that was held in the church on Friday evening and the service on Sunday.
******************
The service commenced with a creative arts performance from the Cat Fish. This was the primary school children in full flight led by Francis Notman who has developed an active programme for this wonderful group over the seven years that she has been with us.
The final message from a departing minister always has a story to tell. In this case John addressed the dangers we may face in the future. This is in the form of too much pride through selfish ambition or vein conceit. The strength in the church as reflected in the life of Jesus is to be humble in our attitude and orthodox in belief. This will lead to growth in the church.
The message, which was read by Mary Swinton, was taken from Philippians 2. It offered a “pride index” where we can compare ourselves to Jesus and it demonstrated how Jesus was in the very nature of God. It reminded us how Jesus took the form of a humble servant on earth. Yet we still will require to answer to him in heaven.
Every knee will require to bow to Jesus in heaven. We should not boast about our individual achievements, we should instead promote the achievements that were won for all mankind through Jesus sacrifice on the cross. This is the name we know and honour.
