Prayer Points & Daily Readings
3rd May - 9th May 2010
Monday 3rd May Complete Knowledge Ps139 V 1-5
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar”.
A recent song used the words “God is watching us from a distance”. Friendships don’t grow with anyone we keep at a distance, and these verses describe closeness and familiarity and care. Like David, who wrote this Psalm, we can have a close personal relationship with God and discover how near he is with hands outstretched, a loving, protective parent.
Remember:- He knows all we do and think and waits to guide, correct and comfort us.
Tuesday 4th May Complete Confidence V 6-10
“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?”
The psalms were written by people like us who get things wrong at times, have to face pain and disappointment and see hopes and dreams shattered before ever coming true. We may see ourselves as we read the psalms, getting out of control and wondering where to go next. Now we need our relationship with the one who is never out of control.
Remember:- “You are with me beyond my understand; God of my present, my past and
Future too”. B Farrell
Wednesday 5th May Radiance V11-12
“If I say, “Let only darkness cover me, and the light around me be night”, even the darkness is not dark to thee, the night is as bright as the day; for darkness is as light to thee”.
Jesus came to show the world the truth of God. Truth to set us free from the ignorance that keeps us stuck in bad habits and attitudes of spiritual darkness. He is for us God’s light in the world.
Remember:- “Lord I come to your awesome presence, from the darkness into your radiance, by your blood may I enter your brightness, search me, try me, consume all my darkness—shine on me!”. Graham Kendrick

Thursday 6th May Wonderful are thy works!! V13-16
“For though didst form my inward parts, thou didst knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise thee for though art fearful and wonderful”.
Nowadays we can see through the wonders of ultrasound, God at work creating. He takes this a step further and has the days of our lives all recorded in His book of life before we even start. We are not random accidents, but planned, desired, known and loved.
Remember:- He loves us from the first of time; He loves us to the last. With God’s help we can be the people He planned us to be.
Friday 7th May One…....Two…..Three V 17-18
“How precious are thy thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them they are more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with thee”.
This sounds almost as if the psalmist goes to sleep counting the thoughts of God to ensure his presence in the morning. Better than counting sheep—meditating on God and getting close to God in prayer is the perfect way to end the day.
Remember:- Taking up where you left off the night before is a perfect way to start the day.

Saturday 8th May Your enemies—My enemies V 19-20
“O that thou wouldst slay the wicked, O God….I hate them with a perfect hatred; I count them my enemies”.
Suddenly in the midst of contemplating God’s love and provision comes this outburst of anger and hatred. Here are three questions to see if we are facing righteous anger.
1. Would you destroy the sin, but not the sinner?
2. Is it God’s job to punish?
3. Are we willing to await God’s timing for justice?
If we leave God out of the equation, we end up with emotions we can’t control, but if we give God a chance to help us work through our anger, hatred, anxiety and pain we will find the way through.
Remember:- God cares about the negative feelings we have to cope with.
Sunday 9th May Open Up V 23-24
“Search me, O God and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting!”.
Let’s invite God into our hearts and minds, even into our whole lives. Tell him what we think and feel. We could see this as a spiritual detox and work our way together with him through our negative feelings to hope and joy.
“Search me, O God, search me and know my heart, try me O God, my mind and spirit try to keep me from any path that gives you pain and lead me in the everlasting way”.
