Online Service - 13th Sept 2020

Welcome to the online Fetteresso Church Service - Church At Home for this week.

The theme of this weeks Service is Harvest and Thanksgiving. Many thanks to Robert Bell for leading us through this Service, and to Rev Dr Bill Wallace for preaching. Thanks also to Ian Gillis our Choirmaster and Organist for the Musical interludes. Due to the current guidelines any music praise items in this Online Service have been added in from our extensive Digital Sound Archives.

The Rev Bill Wallace in his talk reminds us the importance of giving thanks. More often than not, if we are honest with ourselves we are not very good at giving thanks. So even, and especially, in these troubling days we may want to think of all the things we should be giving thanks for.  At this time of harvest we should all be giving thanks to God for the abundant provision of food wherever that comes from. So whatever your harvest is, Tatties, Plums, Apples, Tomatoes or even those very abundant courgettes, may you be thankful for that harvest.

In Exodus 23 v 16 it says “ Celebrate the Festival of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field. “” Celebrate the Festival of Ingathering at the end of the year.””

I reflect on this in the Choir Anthem today, John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth.” This has been put to timely video footage of this year’s harvest at Fetteresso. So keep a look out for a Massey Ferguson Centora 7280AL Combine Harvester.  Finally, a picture of yesteryear showing the display of produce at the Harvest Festival at Fetteresso Kirk circa 1940.

Keep Safe Keep Singing Keep Giving Thanks
